Il tuber aestivum è detto anche Tartufo nero estivo o Scorsone. Il tartufo nero estivo è una tipologia molto nota, e dalle buone proprietà organolettiche, anche se non equiparabili a quelle dello Tartufo nero Pregiato (Tuber melanosporum Vitt). Anche se meno pregiato rispetto ad altre specie di Tuber, il tartufo estivo è però più resistente e si conserva più a lungo rispetto ad altre varietà.
